My Cake Class

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I sign up for a course? You will need to sign up in person at Michael's (Springfield, OR) to register for class. Any of the cashiers can register you for the course.

I want to reserve my spot, but can't pay yet. can I still register? You can not place your name down to reserve a spot and will need to pay at the time you register.

Do I have to bring a cake to class each week? It is not mandatory but does help you perfect your skills of frosting and decorating a cake on the real surface. If you are not able to get a cake baked please note that many of the markets in town will sell you an 8 inch cake that is uniced.

What if I miss a class, can I make it up? The next time the lesson is taught by an instructor you can attend. It is strongly recommended that you contact the instructor teaching the course first to ensure it was not cancelled. The exception to this is the first night of class. It is mandatory that it be attended for you to be able to attend the rest of the courses.

What Supplies do I need for class? It is strongly recommended that you purchase either the course kit, or the Ultimate Caddy. You can find a complete course supply list by clicking here.

Do I have to use only Wilton products in class? Since you have signed up for a Wilton Course it is strongly preferred that you use only Wilton products in class. It helps to keep all students on the same track, and keeps you from trying to find another brand name that is equivilents tip.

What does it take for me to get a certificate? All students will get a certificate of completion to show they have taken the course.

Can I bring someone with me to class? It is both Michael's and Wilton's policy that only paid students may attend class. Anyone in the classroom area for the duration of a project class or course must have paid the registration fee regardless of age and amount of participation done or not done during the instruction period. Unpaid children can not attend with a paid adult and "just watch" or be a "helper". Exceptions to these rules are made for the following conditions:

a) for those with language barriers. The student is responsible for providing the translator. The translator is not allowed to used products or practice techniques. If they choose to do so, they must register for class.

b) for any student with a physical disability and has a paid assistant with them. The assistant is able to help them prepare for the techniques and directly help their student with out a paid registration.

How young can my child be to take your course? Wilton's courses are written for students of age 16 or older. Please note that the Michael's policy states that any child under the age of 18 must have a paid parent taking the course with them. Children under 16 may pay for and attend class but please note...

If any younger children register for this course they may have problems with some of the techniques and/or working with the stiffer consistencies. The instructor is not able to substitute easier techniques if this happens and the younger child will be expected to practice techniques they are able to do when a technique is to hard for them.

Also, if the child is too young to sit through a two hour lesson and becomes disruptive on a consistent basis and it becomes a problem with instructon time and keeps the other students from being able to properly learn and enjoy the class that they paid for as well the instructor will work with her store management and paid adult to reevaluate the child continuing on in that specific class and may need to set up another time for the child and their paid adult to receive instruction in their own course environment.

Wilton does provide a variety of project classes that last 2 hours. It is suggested for anyone age 12 and under to take one of these first. This will allow the instructor to be able to better evaluate the child to see if they would be a good fit for taking a four week course.
